Without blue on you, how much school pride have you really got? While you’re at it, why not take a bunny-hop farther and thread in some gold? That’s the sort of extravagance you can expect to see bannered through the halls and hills of Denmark High School on the Monday celebrating the beginning of a national observance most beloved by students with hot-shot speaking skills and a shocking knowledge of poultry curiosities: FFA Week! Who’s ready to celebrate?
It’s not a rhetorical question. Such a roof-raising query was answered on Saturday, February 21st by the eager turnout who rolled up to our school backyard for a rousing, spirited day of barn cleaning. All were welcome, from members to parents to our own resident goats, and a spiffy shining was awarded to the beautiful bounty of land we’ve been privileged enough to have in our now near-decade (ish) of opening. Refreshment was served — refreshment of our gorgeous barn for the spring semester. Bravo!
Things went predictably viral (depending on your definition) on the last day of the weekend when #SAESunday rolled in with its eponymous hashtag attached to posts showing off students’ supervised agricultural experiences outside of the classroom. When you’re off-campus and able to responsibly act without the rule of the No Distractions policy impacting your behavior, pull up your social media outlet of choice and check out what no-doubt exceptional hobbies and projects your peers have showcased this weekend.
Monday was bursting with the noble coloring mentioned in this article’s dashing first paragraph. The theme was unified blue and good ol’ corn gold, FFA’s historical colors. If you were wondering why everyone’s raiments remarkably resembled one another all day… You need to get in the FFA loop! Word on the street is that a lucky fashionista, named “best dressed”, was awarded a much-coveted prize… their own custom FFA blazer!
On Tuesday, 2/24, Wellness Dane Time 1 held a chance for mystery, intrigue, and excavation: a scavenger hunt urging members to search the cavernous barn. Discovery of any items resulted in varied prizing.
It was a sporting Wednesday when the monthly meeting took a timely turn and embraced the Olympic spirit then in full force. Agricultural games were played, indubitably enjoyed, encouraging the coming together of all FFA members.
Thursday saw the close of the week-long collection of donations by the organization for Ahimsa House, a valiant institution dedicated to rescuing pets from the claws of abuse.
Friday was bittersweet, with the sweetness largely coming from the buttermilk of the Chic-Fil-A biscuits served up to the school’s teachers in gratitude for everything that they do. Ain’t those FFA kids nice?
If it sounds fun but you missed out, don’t get too down. The nice thing about annual observances is that they come once every year! Make sure to mark your calendars for the next chance to celebrate and contribute.
