TSA’s Season Success and New State Secretary

Have you ever seen a robot in a dress? How about drones and robots designed, flown, and operated by students? The Technology Student Association, TSA, includes everything from fashion to flight, and is a high school club that encourages students to expand their knowledge of subjects in science, math, and technology. With over 40 competitions, members are given the opportunity to show off their skills and win different scholarships and awards.

Earlier this month, members traveled to Athens, GA to attend the State Leadership conference, which includes both leadership skill development and competitive events. The Drone Team came out victorious, winning first place in the conference, yet every single group in attendance gained the valuable connections and experiences brought by this event.

Vex Robotics President and TSA State Secretary Charu Bigamudra explained that the most important aspect of the SLC was “ colleges reaching out because so many colleges come there and attend”. Bigamudra also expressed that she “had the opportunity as a state officer to meet my Senators… and it’s an experience that not a lot of people have the opportunity to get”. Competitions such as these are an exceptional way to make meaningful relationships and promote a future in the technology field. TSA is an amazing association to be a part of for those pursuing a career in science, technology, or engineering.

“TSA has taught me how to work with others, problem solving, and presentation skills.”

Another aspect of the SLC is the ability to meet many new people. Junior TSA officer Joelle Coffey explains that her favorite aspect is “The student body… It’s a great time to create lifelong friends and experiences”. All TSA chapters in Georgia are able to gather and participate in this event, spreading ideas, connections, and competition.

Including vocational skills such as welding, TSA has a category for all interests. Members work year round to further their skills as well as building a team that runs smoothly and communicates. As competition season is in full swing, Coffey explains that “ We prepare the students with meetings, in-house competitions, socials to meet other chapters, and workshops to better prepare them for competing”. The passion these students have for their interests is what separates them from the rest and influences their success. The dedication and enthusiasm of the members of TSA is truly the reason behind their achievements. Being a part of a club or organization such as TSA will prepare students for real world working experiences which gives them a head start when they begin looking for occupations.

Charu Bigamudra has recently been promoted to the position of State Secretary after lots of hard work, and her passion for the club is extremely evident. In order to achieve this role, Bigamudra had to “Attend every single conference… and if you had attended all of these conferences, there was an application process’ ‘. Receiving the rank of an officer is the result of months of dedication and devotion many hours to the success and future of the club. Denmark TSA is extremely lucky to have a leader such as Charu in their organization.

You will find me spending my afternoons on the track and my weekends shopping with friends, aside from this I’m probably in the starbucks drive through. (Sorry it’s basic, I know). Since I'm stuck in this building for 8 hours, I spend my time putting things off until the last minute just like this bio you're reading. As an athlete, I’m so excited to be more involved with sports and find a new passion for reading/writing!

The barn is my second home with its dark tan facade, the outside glistening in the bright sun as I push the slightly broken doors open, the sound of our animals filling my ears. A smile rises on my face. Through all of the loud noises, though, I need moments of silence, which resonate with the sounds of typing keys of my work, ranging from fantastical stories to journalistic work. As editor-in-chief, working on Denmark High School’s newspaper is one of numerous pieces that I’ve been passionate about, and I hope to continue sharing stories with those who wish to fill their silence.
