From Friday Night Lights with friends, to basketball games, and theater performances, there is one event that unites all Denmark Dances excited… homecoming! The school hallways light up with excitement during the week of the dance. From dinner reservations to photo ops, dresses, and suits, students want to ensure that the night is one to remember. Although homecoming is an enjoyable night for everyone, a specific group of Danes get to immerse themselves in the lively event for the first time, the freshmen! While the first year of high school is full of new experiences, homecoming is likely one of the highlights.
To make for an unforgettable night, planning is needed. Math Teacher and SGA sponsor, Mrs. Erica Nelson, plays a crucial part in the long process of the preparations. She gets just as excited about the exhilarating night as the students do. While speaking on the thrill of the freshmen’s first experience at homecoming, she says, “I believe the sooner students get plugged in, the better their overall experience in high school will be!” As school has only been in session for one month, the freshmen are still testing the waters at Denmark. Homecoming is the perfect opportunity to attend a school-wide event with friends and have a phenomenal time. With homecoming at the very beginning of the school year, Mrs. Nelson says she, “hopes it will encourage students to continue to participate in other events on campus.” With hundreds of new faces at Denmark, there is no better time than now to attend an event like homecoming.

Freshman, Emma Long, is ecstatic about her first homecoming. She is most excited to, “get ready with her friends,” and she
thinks that it is important to attend this year because, “we did not get these experiences in middle school.” 8th grade formal is the closest one can get to the experience while in middle school, but nothing quite matches the excitement of the night. Sydney Royalty, freshman, thinks it is important to go to homecoming to, “go and celebrate your school.” Homecoming is definitely nothing short of a celebration and all Danes are assured to have a great time. One thing that draws students to homecoming is the memories they make with friends. Sydney and Emma collectively expressed how they’re“most excited to get ready and hang out with my friends.” Homecoming provides students with the ability to see classmates outside of the school setting, adding a nice change of scenery.
As the homecoming tradition continues, Danes are excited to welcome in the freshman and introduce them to the excitement of the event.
