When it comes to school most people arrive expecting to see their friends, not just to do work, but to connect with people. Here at Denmark, one thing you will see is that everyone connects, putting any differences aside and just enjoying the company. It wouldn’t be rare to see two completely different groups of people talk and have fun with each other. It’s not just students who connect with each other, administration and teachers do as well. This makes the school feel a lot more comfortable, especially for the new freshman coming in.
Coming into Denmark my freshman year was nerve-wracking because more than half my friends were going to a different school. During freshman orientation, I got to talk with new people immediately, hitting it off with others and ending up in a new group of friends. One that was a little different from the one I had in middle school but that wasn’t the big surprise. Halfway through the year I was partnered up with this girl, Amena, we didn’t necessarily hit it off immediately but in that class specifically, we talked and gossiped.
As time went on Amena and I would talk more outside of just culinary, we would even talk at lunch and occasionally in other places. I reached a certain level of comfort and could actually consider her my friend. It was a surprise for me to genuinely enjoy talking to someone outside of my friend group. Mina and I even went on to talk during summer too and became best friends. Without Denmark I wouldn’t have met one of the coolest people I know.
When it comes to comfort at Denmark High School it’s easy to find people you can connect with, it’s easy to reach a high level of comfort. That’s what makes it enjoyable to be a student. For people who are just barely coming in, they shouldn’t be afraid to connect with other people. We are a school where one can feel safe and happy, the people in here make it a great day to be a Dane.
